Health Team update: Work in progress…

patience, persistence, resistance, change, opportunity, transformation…  Just some words that come to mind for me as I reflect on the continuing development of the YCC Health Team.  There is a tension between planning and action.  There are tensions as we get to know one another more deeply.  There are tensions as we learn how to work together.  This is normal in the process of developing a group.  Consciously assessing the process as we move forward can be helpful.  I believe it is useful, and crucial, to help us all tune in to the dynamics of our communication.  Doing so can allow us to continue to deepen our understanding of one another, and ourselves.

I see the continued development of the Health Team in this context.  We’ve gone through transitions since beginning to meet in January, 2010.  And work is continuing around defining plans for addressing health and healthcare in Yavapai County.  A small group is continuing to meet, defining a focus and framework for the Team.  After an initial strategy session here are the areas that we think we can and should explore:

  • Our Community’s Capacity for Health Planning
  • The Current Health Care Business Model in Our Community
  • The Capacity of Individuals in Our Community to Take Responsibility for their Health and for Their Health Care Choices

In the coming months I think you can expect to see some powerful ideas emerging.  As the small group creates a plan for our next steps here are a couple of resources you might be interested in exploring:  http://www.takingcharge.csh.umn.edu/  &  http://www.hhs.gov/open/datasets/communityhealthdata.html
